Best Dehumidifiers

We reviewed dehumidifiers across coverage area versus pint capacity claims, Energy Star certification, drainage flexibility, auto-restart after power outages, and smart home integration.

The pint rating system changed in 2019 from the old AHAM standard to the new DOE standard, which tests at lower temperatures and produces lower numbers for the same machine. When comparing dehumidifiers across brands and years, verify which standard the rating uses before comparing numbers directly.

Placement matters for performance. A dehumidifier in the center of a basement performs better than one tucked in a corner -- unrestricted airflow in and out of the unit improves coverage. Keep the dehumidifier at least 6-12 inches from walls. In a very large basement, a single unit may need supplemental fans to circulate air through the full space effectively.
