Best Electric Fireplaces

Updated

We reviewed electric fireplaces across flame realism, heat output, installation type, smart home control, and noise level.

Flame realism has improved dramatically in the past decade. Modern electric fireplaces use 3D LED flame effects with depth and multi-color options that pass casual inspection from across the room. The distinction between a realistic flame effect and an obviously fake one is now primarily determined by price tier rather than the fundamental technology. Mid-range and above use multiple LED planes at different depths to create genuine dimensional flame appearance.

Heat output from an electric fireplace is a supplemental heat source, not a primary one. A 1500W electric fireplace produces the same heat as a 1500W space heater -- adequate to supplement a well-insulated room of 400 square feet or less. For buyers expecting to meaningfully heat a room, verify the BTU output and square footage rating against their actual room size.

Tornivk 23-Inch Electric Fireplace Insert

Not Recommended

Tornivk 23-Inch Electric Fireplace Insert

The Tornivk 23-Inch Electric Fireplace Insert has solid feedback from only a handful of reviews. Electric fireplaces are semi-permanent installations -- if the unit fails, you deal with wall repair and reinstallation. A handful of reviews is nowhere near enough to confirm real-world reliability for a product you're installing in a wall. The Touchstone Sideline and R.W.FLAME models have far larger review bases.
