Best Electric Kettles

We reviewed electric kettles across boil time per liter, hold temperature accuracy for variable temperature models, pour spout precision for pour-over coffee, gooseneck design quality, auto-shutoff reliability, and keep-warm duration.

Variable temperature is not optional for specialty brewing. Black tea brews best at 208-212 degrees F. Green tea brews at 160-180 degrees F -- boiling water destroys the delicate compounds that make green tea taste good. Pour-over coffee brews at 195-205 degrees F. A kettle without variable temperature forces you to either overheat or wait for water to cool, which is inconsistent. For any serious tea or coffee preparation, variable temperature is the baseline requirement.

Gooseneck spout design matters only if you do pour-over coffee or tea with controlled pour technique. A standard spout pours in an uncontrolled stream -- fine for making a cup of tea from a bag. A gooseneck spout allows a precise thin stream that controls extraction rate in pour-over brewing. If you drink drip coffee or bagged tea, a standard spout kettle is sufficient and typically less expensive.
