Best Fruit Storage Containers for the Fridge

Updated October 23, 2026

We evaluated fruit storage containers across build quality, lid seal, colander design, stack efficiency, and overall produce longevity. The dominant format in this category is a rectangular clear container with a removable inner colander that elevates fruit above any pooled moisture. The gap between the colander and the container floor is the most important design detail. Containers with a taller gap keep fruit noticeably drier and extend freshness. Containers where the colander sits nearly flush offer far less benefit over a regular lidded container.

Capacity and set size are the two specs that matter most before you buy. A 5-pack of 32-oz containers handles strawberries, blueberries, and grapes without crowding. A 4-pack of smaller containers works for a single person but runs out of space in a household that buys fruit in bulk. The Rubbermaid FreshWorks line uses a different approach entirely -- a CrispTray at the bottom and a FreshVent lid that moderates airflow rather than sealing airtight -- which is effective for most produce but not ideal for fruit that releases a lot of moisture quickly.

Dishwasher safe matters. Plastic produce containers develop residual odors if hand-washed inconsistently, and fruit juices can stain lids that do not go through a full dishwasher cycle. Most containers in this category claim top-rack dishwasher safe. The ones that hold up over repeated cycles at high heat without warping or staining are worth paying more for. If you are replacing containers every few months because lids warp, you have not saved money.
